Buying Afghan Crochet was one of the best investments I ever made. I highly endorse it.
How to crochet a baby's ABC afghan?
I want to crochet a ABC afghan for my friend's baby. My grandmother Afghan Crochet used to make these blankets and I want to learn how to make them as well. I can't understand the patterns they have online, could anyone help me out? Is there a video or something I could watch?

I like the double crochet. It is easy, not too lacy and you can make an afghan quickly, especially if you use a large crochet hook.

If you are talking about the Afghan stitch then I would recommend getting a hook that is long. I’ve found them on the web as long as 22″. That’s the one I would get. This stitch is the only one I know how to do really well. I’ve made 3 large afghans using that stitch and am working on my 4th.The one I have is not quite that long but is long enough to get over 5 feet of width on to the hook.By purchasing a hook that can hold so much work on it you can make almost any size project you want.Once place I saw had a set of different sized hooks all with a 22″ (56cm) length. I’m tempted to purchase it. The hook I have is a size J and is one I’ve had for over 30 years.Personally, I’ve never had to count stitches and all of that. I don’t know how to do those patterns that are out there. I prefer to use variegated yarn so that it creates its own pattern.Unfortunately I can’t find the site that had the hooks as a set. Perhaps you’ll be able to find it .I hope you found this helpful.

It really depends on the type of yarn, the pattern, and how tight or loose you crochet. Personally, I would figure on about 84 ounces, which is 21… 4 ounce skeins. You can always return what you don’t use, or keep it for another project. Maybe you could make a matching pillow with any left overs.

Go here…. http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro/ Take a picture you have and convert it to a graph. You may need to do some math to figure out how big the picture is going to be, how big you want your finished afghan etc and as to what stitch to use (though I have found sc to be best with graphed afghans)Good luck!

I am not sure you can get them in New Dehli. I know of some people who may be able to help you though. Tunisiancrochet group on Yahoo or even the Crochetpartners group on yahoo they are free to join and have worlds of experienced and international crocheters. I know some Indian crocheters are on there and you could ask them.

If you know how make an afghan that is sorta a take on the Granny Square, just one big one.Start out by making a chain about 12 in long. Go back on the chain with double crochet putting one in each hole. when you getto the end put 4 double crochet in that hole continue around back up the other side with double crochet in each hole and when you get to the other end put 4 double crochet in that hole. You should have the chain in the middle surouned by double crochets and 4 on each end. Join with the first double crochet you made. Chain 3 put two double crochet in the hold next to your chain. then three in each hole till you reach the end with your 4 . make 3 double crochet, chain one then three double crohet in same hole move over one hole put in 3 double move over on hole put three double one chain three double work your way back down the bottom side with 3 double in each. same thing when you get to the end 3 double one chain 3 double move over to next hole three double move over three double one chain three double. attatch to the chain you started with.at this point you should end up with an almost an oval shaped piece and you will have started your four corners. Chain 3 put 2 double in the hole by that continue around as you would a normal square.if you make it large enough and since it is rectangle it fits a bed much better than just a large square. It sound more complicated that it is.good luck

You could borrow the technique from this afghan http://www.allfreecrafts.com/crochet/american-flag.shtml.

I dont have the book, nor seen the afghan, but I think going with a bright variegated yarn for the main color and black as a contrasting color would work.

Mary Maxim has one that is round, but you would have to purchase the kit. Other than that, I would say be creative, adapt the baby patterns you’ve found to a larger size by using larger yarn and a larger hook, and addind rows. It’s usually easy to add rows once the pattern is established… Good Luck!

Lion Brand’s site had a free prayer shawl pattern. It uses four skeins of homespun. Sounds like a lot, but it works up pretty quickly.lionbrandyarn.comUpdate: I used Lion Brand’s “pattern finder” and searched for “prayer afghan” and a free pattern did come up.

It really depends on the quality of the work, and the yarns that you used to make it (even if they are left overs). Are the yarns all wool, acrylic, mix of everything? People will pay more for luxury materials like cashmere, mohair, silk. Is the item washable?Don’t try and price it based on the hours that it took you, it won’t sell! Think about what crafts of this type would go for in your area. I think that a price of $50 – $75 would be reasonable based on the work, but only if the quality is good. I do hope it sells — times are really tough for crafters right now. Not much money for what folks consider luxuries.
