How to read this Crochet Doily pattern?
Hello all,I am a knitter and just this year I have taken up crocheting. I am learning to crochet doilies at the moment but I get confused on somethings and I hope I can receive help :)Thepattern can be found here http://www.crochetmagazine.com/newsletters.php?mode=article&article_id=1332&key=NL00I have four questions.Question 1:The pattern notes say this: Chain-3 at beginning of rounds counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.Taking a look at the pattern, at the rounds that have no "ch" something in the beginning, do I chain 3 according to the pattern notes or do I do just as indicated sense that would seem to be something indicated like the pattern notes say? Some rounds have "ch 4" or "ch 3". Do I keep this as is? I do not ch 3 according to the pattern notes correct Doily Pattern because there is already an indication of chaining in the beginning of the round. But with a round that begins with no chainign such as: "Rnd 7: Sl st in ..." Do I here chain 3? The pattern notes say "unless otherwise indicated". All the rounds have an indication...so how do I know ..?Question 2The pattern says : Ch 4 (counts as first dc, ch-1)I understand chaining 4 will count as my first dc but do I actually chain 1 after or is this information that will be helpful to me later and how so?Question 3The pattern says: [dc in next sc] and another part says: join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3I always get confused about this. How am I supposed to know where I single crocheted? I understand I have to look at this as levels. So what I did in the previous rounds is setting below and I will be crocheting above this correct? Is this what this means? Dc in the sc that I previously did? The sc should be right there correct? Because I have not gone onto the other round. But How do I find this sc? And how do I remember where the chain 3 is? Will it be right where I started the round..perhaps I can use a marker? This is confusing. I always feel like I am just putting my hook in any which way and where and hoping I am doing it right...in the right space or loop and in the right stitch...:-/Question 4The pattern says: Ch 1, sc in same stDoes this mean I sc in the same spot where I STARTED my chain 1 or in the ch 1 stitch? I hope I make sense :)Edging:Do I have to do the edging. It seems confusing attaching cotton?Thank you so very much for taking your time to answer these questions. I am very determined to make doilies !! God bless you and take care :)-Kari
