This is a totally unsolicited review of Crochet Animal. I wrote it exclusively for you. Trust me on this one. Crochet Animal has completely surpassed our expectations.
How many knots/loops are in a crochet chain? (and additional questions)?
I'm just learning to crochet (because i heard it was fun and im bored), and i got a book how to Crochet Animal crochet. But, it doesn't tell me how many knots/loops are in a chain. And if it depends on the craft i am making, where can i find the part where it tells you? Also, what is a gauge? I don't understand! And, can anyone find me a cute, easy animal to crochet for beginners? Thank you for your answers! (sorry for all of the questions!)

Great you want to help but choose something beside yarn. Cats can ingest the fibers and develop blockages of the lower intestines.

I don’t know about machine-made, but you can buy handmade ones at Etsy. I searched & found lots. Here are just a few:http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7358113http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7496657http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=5548998http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=5115456http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=5492833For babies:http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=5269457http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7508972http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=6753599

I haven’t seen a amigurumi animal that had loops, if you’re referring to using loops of yarn to resemble hair or fur. Most of the ones I’ve seen that had hair or fur used a boucle or chenille or furry yarn. However, I have crocheted baby toys that *did* have loopy fur that was made using a sc. To make the loop, working from the wrong side, put the hook through the next stitch and pull through a loop, just as you would to start any single crochet. To finish the sc, catch the yarn below (on the other side of) your left forefinger, pulling the working yarn into a loop around your left forefinger, and work the yarn through both loops on your hook. Then remove your left forefinger from the yarn loop. After just a few stitches, you’ll work into a rhythm and the loops will even out in length. If you’re referring to the “Magic Adjustable Loop” for starting the crochet body and pulling a tight loop to close the first round, this web site has great illustrations: http://www.pepika.com/free-patterns/amigurumi-course.html

You will want to recover your costs for the material (enough to buy more), and make a little something for all your time as well. When it is a business, you have to consider your overhead costs (rent, electricity, license, taxes, etc.) as well. What are you willing to accept as the minimal payment? What are they willing to pay? Maybe you need to find a more affluent market? Just because your customers are broke is not reason for you to give away all your work for nothing. Look at some other similar items that are for sale locally, or online, and compare your work to theirs. Should you charge about the same? You never want to undercut everyone else, at your own expense. You must allow yourself some margin of profit for yourself as well. Remember that you will find it very hard to raise your prices once they see what you are charging now. This is from hard experience!

Yes, you’re reading the first set of instructions you had questions about correctly. When a pattern says “Sc1, 2SC in next sc” you will single crochet once, and then put two single crochets in the next stitch along the round. When it says “R6-11: Sc30″ you will work Rounds 6 through 11 by making 30 Single Crochets in each round. You will do this 6 times. Once for 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. You seem to have the hang of pattern reading pretty well. There will be little nagging questions like this when you read many patterns for the first time. When in doubt, try your first interpretation and see if that is producing the intended result. This is especially easy when patterns list the number of stitches you should have in a round when it is complete. Part of the beauty of crochet is that when it doesn’t work, you can rip it out to the mistake and try again.

A beginner and amateur can be called a crafter. An expert may be called an entrepreneur, owner of a specialty boutiqueA crafter’s income will differ, depending on her products and time of year (exhibits and fairs).A entrepreneur’s income also will differ depending on her product and marketing (platform, branding).

ArtPeople will buy pieces of art, sculpted, metalwork, paintings etc.People will also buy cute stuff for their kids, like tutu’s, pillow cases, frilly skirts.People all over the world will spend money on handmade quilts. But honestly – a thing that is in serious demand these days is a good alterations person. If you can learn to alter clothing, you could make a lot of money. I know a girl who picks up jeans at Buckle on Friday, hems them and returns them the following friday to pick up more – She makes good money just doing that. A person who can hem, take clothes in and out, will always be able to make money. Not a lot of girls are learning these things today, so the need is great and the available people are either swamped with what they have, or, they are not that good.just my opinion.

I understand the problem you are having, I hate trying to tie knots in any type of plastic or nylon cord. One suggestion is regular crochet cotton or even embroidery floss (use all 6 strands).
