Normally, crochet thread is mostly Size 10, or bedspread, as it is also known. For Monaco Thread check this site out:http://crochetthreadsandmore.blogspot.com/2006/01/monaco-cotton-threads-and-shipping.htmlHere’s a page that has info about Cannon:http://mimi.csa.googlepages.com/cottonthreadshttp://www.nationalbookstore.com/shop/products.asp?merchant_code=NBS&categ=297&product=13878And yes, Cannon is apparently Size 8 thread, but check your gauge before you start a project. Now, THIS SITE here has tons of thread AND yarn:http://www.herrschners.com/default.aspx(their thread)http://www.herrschners.com/depts/id-1954.htmlso does Moda Dea:http://www.modadea.com/index.htmHope this helps!

I have thought using that too. But apparently the string used for candles are treated somehow so they burn slowly and I was told to only use candle wicking and nothing else.

When in doubt, buy more than you need and keep the receipt. That’s what I typically end up doing. When a project calls for mercerized cotton, you can substitute baby yarn and just use a smaller hook. The project will work as long as you check your gauge and stick to it.(I read your pattern as meaning 3 balls of 400 yd. thread.)

You don’t use elastic – http://www.ehow.com/how_2228126_crochet-bikini.htmlAnd you don’t get them wet.

You could try making a bear from a regular bear pattern, just with thread and the right hook. but it isn’t easy if you don’t know that basics of crochet, along with joining rounds, increasing, and decreasing

That’s very fine, I’d suggest that you look at steel hooks in the size 12 – 16 US sizes and swatch for this. I’ve used 80 thread and 14′s what’s called for for that one.

You could make string balls. Using starch, soak the thread and then wrap it around an inflated balloon, preferably a small one, between 3 and 6 inches across. Allow to dry, remove the balloon, and then you can hang them (with or without lights) or leave them in a basket on a coffee table.

Try Aunt Lydia’s crochet thread…but I have only seen basic colors like white and black, but at the two sites below they may have other colors. Or if you go to a different size thread you may have more color options. Just a thought.Good Luck!
