How can you disinfect a hand crochet baby blanket.?
While working on a Baby Crochet baby blanket for a new arrival some nasty illness made their rounds at my house. Is there a way to disinfect the item without harming it?

I have never tried to wash an afghan with fringe, so I can’t tell you how it would wash. However, whether it frayed or not would depend on the type of yarn. I would try and wash it in a front loading washer (like at a laundromat) just to be safe. Make sure the knots that tie the fringe to the afghan are tight too. Sometimes they come loose. As for how long to make the fringe, make it LONG. Cut the initial length of yarn at least eight inches. (I prefer ten or twelve inches.) Remember that you have to fold it in half and when you knot it, you will lose a little of the length that way too. An eight inch length of yarn would work out to be about three inch fringe. Personally, I think longer fringe looks better. Plus, if you don’t cut it straight, you have more to work with and it won’t be so short.~Happy Crocheting!~

Hello,You could always use any crochet edgings for the blanket. With a steel hook you could directly make the stitches on the blanket and go all around doing a sc and 3 to 4 chains and then again a sc at equal distance. Then use the chain loops to start your lace edgings.Other than crochet edging, you can use any pretty lace to stitch on to the blanket edge. You can edge the blankets with pretty printed bias bindings. If these are not easily available you can make your own with either nursery prints or polka dots. Add a ruffle of polka dotted cotton material. It makes the blanket look real special.Hope this is useful.Sandhya.

In the previous row, you should have made some spaces where you chain 2. In this row, you will make 2 double crochet stitches in that chain 2 space. Proceed across the entire row. You won’t leave any chain space between the double crochets.

Hand wash it in the sink, use color bleach and hot water. Works great

I glanced through this website…. http://crochetpatterncentral.com/directory.php .. and didn’t see it, but I wasn’t looking too closely. Even if it doesn’t help you in this case, it’s an excellent resource for finding patterns.

I have made those baby headbands using a strand of elastic thread along with a strand of yarn to crochet the things. I have also made lots of the bands and some snoods for others using the pony tail bands.Get the round elastic that is fiber covered. measure it the length you want it, overlap and put the fabric tube on it or crochet over it or what ever else you want to do. It comes in very fine about size 40 and up to a quarter inch.Get the round elastic from any sewing department.

This is what I could find.http://cuddles-uk.org/ripplebabyblanketpatt.htmhttp://jillmc.tripod.com/ripple.htmlThe two above may be the same pattern. They say it looks good in variegated yarn but have no picture. The next one, look at the green variegated. If you want to make it I can help by increasing you picture and counting the stitches. Apparently no question as to the variegated yarn but to be safe have her pick the yarn and you wont have to make the mistake in getting the wrong color.http://www.thefind.com/crafts/info-ripple-afghan-patternhttp://www.angelfire.com/tx5/angelcrafts/patterns/roundripple.htmlhttp://www.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474976910272http://www.askkids.com/resource/Free-Round-Ripple-Afghan-Pattern.htmlThis next one is unusual. Look at the beginning of each ripple it is not an error but part of the pattern if you want to http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=110717

Nothing..since I have about three people in my family who will make a hand-crocheted (or knitted) blanket for each of my children. I have to admit that sometimes I wish I would only get one, since they are so fragile. I guess you could pay maybe 40 bucks for a big one. But I wouldn’t pay a whole lot for a little baby one…maybe 20?

Here’s are a few pages at e-how, which provides several patterns. The third pattern explains how to follow an instruction video for making a headband. The fourth item provides a very simple video at youtube. The last item takes you to Crochet Pattern Central, where you are provided with a long list of options for various hair accessories. All of these sites are free, and do not require membership. Hope this helps.http://www.ehow.com/how_5062954_crochet-baby-headband.htmlhttp://www.ehow.com/how_4449890_make-crocheted-headband.htmlhttp://www.ehow.com/how_5142592_crochet-baby-headbands-following-tutorials.htmlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RoCP8RuHHchttp://crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/hair_accessories.php

Here’s a pattern for an adorable headband–it fairly shouts “girly girl!” http://promotions.drgnetwork.com/newsletters/talkingcrochet/pages/TCNL1707_patt1.htmlThis one uses elastic yarn so no additional elastic is required http://hooked-on-crochet.blogspot.com/2009/08/free-pattern-easiest-ever-baby-headband.html

There are a lot of websites with patterns; I’ve posted a few in “sources.” Also check your local library as there are often donated books of patterns that you can borrow. And of course the stores where you buy yarn will have patterns; Leisure Arts specializes in booklets of baby items.
