The problem is that your credit score doesn’t really look at the amount of the delinquency….the fact that it’s there hurts you.And paying it off doesn’t help that much, because the fact that you have a delinquency is still being reported. You need to get this deleted from your report, and the only way that can happen is if the creditor deletes it.Once they have your money, they are very uncooperative in helping you out. That is why you should first negotiate an agreement that in exchange for payment, they delete the item from your credit report.At this point, all you can do is call them up and politely ask them to delete the item. but if this is a large cable company (Comcast, Warner…) good luck. They are very uncooperative.You can try sending a dispute letter to the credit bureaus and go to validation process, but I suspect it won’t help you much in this case.
